Swim, Bike, Run. Then write about it.

T- 36w 5d

I’m going to start with the exercise because I did my very first triathlon specific training on my quest for Ironman. I did a brick.

OK, not a big brick. And OK it was a gym brick. But crap it showed me I’m out of shape, lol.

Bike (recumbent since I still can’t put weight on the wrist): 21.25km in 30 minutes
Run (treadmill obviously): 5km in 24:47.

I routinely run faster than that on the treadmill and even at times on the road as my training is increasing. But, doing it after the bike was a bit of a challenge, exactly as it supposed to be. Much more training is required I think.

So back in time and back to the normal blog entry.

I’m writing the draft of this early in the morning and I have a plan for the day. Let’s see how that goes shall we?

The plan:
- Work
- Lunch with the team
- Work
- Prep dinner and put the kebabs in marinade
- Gym (recumbent bike and short run in brick style)
- Feed dog and cook dinner
- Walk the dog
- Work on finishing all outstanding reviews

Seriously, I have no idea how much of this will get done or if it will get done in this order. Would be pretty damned neat if I did manage to stick to it just like this though, eh?

The reality:
- Work. Check. A bit late this morning as I was chatting with Sheryl before leaving and getting her a key to the new place. We’ve traded keys off to make sure we always have access if needed and to help each other out.
- Lunch with the team. Check. Burger and fries. Had a good time chatting although the table split into two groups so I only wound up talking to half the group. We chatted mostly about Ironman, compression socks, running monks and X-Box v PS3 v Wii. Can you tell I was sitting with the guys?
- Work. Check. I’m never going to get my own work done at this pace, but work is getting done. Out of the office by 5:45. Not bad.
- Prep dinner and put kebabs in marinade. Check. I didn’t put them on skewers because I’m not sure how I’m cooking when I come home. Worst case scenario I can soak some skewers when I get home and then bbq them if I don’t do something else. The meat is prepped though. And the dog is fed.
- Gym. Check. 21.25km on the bike, 5km run. Straight brick style. My legs are wobbly. Sheryl came up to the gym with me and did 30 minutes on the bike as well but then went off and did her own thing being all social like with the gym staff.
- Cook dinner (dog is already fed). Check. Patatas Bravas for the potluck tomorrow and a non-kebab version of Pinchitos Morunos for a late dinner tonight.
- Walk the dog. Check. Curtis came over and walked the dog for me as a belated birthday present :)
- Errr, eat dinner? Check. OK, it was implied above in the cooking, but I invited Sheryl over since she’d missed her dinner that she’d made the kids to go to the gym. And I needed a guinea pig for the Pinchitos Morunos. Evaluation: Success! Plates cleaned. nummy.
- Finish Reviews. Fail. I’ll do these in the morning, it’s 22:45 and I’m ready for bed.

But I did get a couple of other things done as well.
- Laundry. Check.
- Dishes. Mostly check, some of the stuff from dinner tonight is “soaking”.

Nutrition today… well. Lunch sucked. The rest wasn’t so bad really. I did have a big salad, but I could have used more veggies in dinner too.

Breakfast:
- Carnation Instant Breakfast (is anyone really shocked by this? crap I’m lazy in the morning.)

Lunch:
- Burger and fries.
- Can of Coke.

Snack (0):
- Chicken BLT Salad. (how’s that for healty’ish?)
- Can of Coke (I was falling asleep doing reviews, caffeine was a good thing)

Dinner:
- Pinchitos Morunos (fried and not on the kebab stick, I was lazy)
- Rice
- Patatas Bravas

Oh jeez. I don’t have to do bricks to do a short tri, do I? Sounds hard!

You totally have to do bricks! The one I did last night was the same length as a Sprint Triathlon. That doesn’t matter though, you are doing Olympic, remember? Anyway, they are an excellent way to get your legs ready for the change from bike to run.
