Posted on Dec 13, 2009 under Cooking, Events, Exercise, Family, IronMan Canada 2010, Nutrition, Run, Teenagers | No CommentI like posting on the weekend because I have something to post about. True, this is just my normal, every day blog, but really right now I have co-opted it to be my training blog (and my nutrition blog, ug).
I know my goal is IMC, that’s what I’m working towards. So every blog entry without some sorta exercise makes me feel lazy. Weekends then are the best because I know I have at least two runs to report on. That’s just sorta cool.
This morning’s run was an anything but casual 8mi (13km) run with the Running Room group. We started with a rather nasty hill climb, followed by a rather nasty hill climb. All and all the perfect way to start the day. Curtis was out running with me and as always when he’s there I’m trying to run strong and keep pace so he doesn’t get bored. 5 miles in to our run a friend of his’ dad came jogging up to us and said hi. Bo stuck with us for the last 3 miles at what, for him, was a casual chatting pace of just over 5:00min/km. I wasn’t chatting much in the last few miles until we hit a downhill stretch that helped me recover nicely.
Ray (not Ray Ray from the FalseCreek group), who also signed up for Ironman in August, and who actually ran most of the marathon route with me on race day this past year, ran with us also. He’s kicking it pretty hard as well and while he wasn’t struggling by any means, you could tell that we were keeping him challenged at least.
End of the run, 1hour 10minutes and 20seconds. Not bad. Not great, but not bad at all, particularly given that we were doing 10 and 1s.
The late afternoon was dedicated to hanging with my H2H team, Team Trailer Trashed (revisited). I had a wonderful time cooking up some tapas to bring and at least it seemed that everyone enjoyed them. Betty brought a wonderful soup that I really want to learn how to make (without the mushrooms though) and Heather and Terry brought snacks and celery with Cheeze Wiz. Mary, of course, baked her brains out and supplied a wonderful selection of cheeses and baked goodies that I’m sure won’t be on any nutrition plan I come up with. Anne-Marie brought the most unusual food though, Mexican Spice larvae, single serving S.P.A.M, and bacon and cheddar flavoured crickets. Mary and I each tried a cricket but no one was touching the S.P.A.M!
Talking about stories from the run and looking at pictures we all laughed until our cheeks hurt (or at least I did). All and all, a really fun way to spend the late afternoon.
Nutrition. Well, as mentioned above it was hanging with the H2H team for a potluck. How good do you think my eating will have been for the day?
Breakfast:
- Gel before running
Lunch:
- Munching on sausage while cooking
Tapas:
- Patatas Bravas
- Spicy Sausage and Cheese Tortilla
- Bacon and Cheddar Cricket (just the one)
- Antipasto and chips
- Ants on a log
- Various cheeses
Snack (0) (evening snack before bed):
- Salami and cheese sandwich.
- Small bowl of ice cream
All things considered, it could have been a much worse day for nutrition.
