Posted on Jan 22, 2010 under Events, Exercise, IronMan Canada 2010, Nutrition, Swim | 2 CommentsLet’s start with the fun stuff… what did I do to get closer to the start and finish lines of IMC today? I swam. and swam. and then did a bit more.
I wanted to push myself a little bit this morning, see where I was and how it would feel to get to that really tired state. For me I find that pyramids are a great way of doing that in the water. My total distance with small breaks goes up, and my interval distance goes up. A win win.
100m free, 200m pb, 300m free, 400m pb
500m free
400m pb, 300m free, 200m pb, 100m free
Total: 2500m. That’s over half way through my Ironman swim distance, woo hoo. Of course, at the speed I was going it would have taken me 2 hours to do the swim, heh, but I wasn’t going for speed today, just endurance.
I want to do one more endurance swim, 2000m straight and timed, and then I’ll get back to doing drills and improving things like speed and stroke.
No other exercise today other than some wandering around with Matt (colleague up from California) and Gabrielle (daughter out from hickville) during the evening. We certainly didn’t do enough walking to burn off the Japanese dinner at a little place on Broadway (mediocre -> good, not great). After the swim this morning though I was hungry all day.
Nutrition today had a downturn at lunch when the company ordered pizza. I’m weak, I admit it, free food and I was all over it.

Impressive. 2500 m and you’ve been out of the water for HOW long? Nice work Sean!

well, it’s my third swim back. my endurance is still there, I’m just slow(er) and it takes a lot out of me now. But it was 2 months out of the water. Now I need to learn how to do drills again
